In addition to back pain, neck pain is a common complaint, along with decreased or limited mobility in the neck.  Do you have trouble looking to the side or looking back over one or both shoulders?  Do you hear or feel grinding when you turn your head?  Do you suffer from constant aches, pains, or throbbing in your neck and shoulders?

Causes of neck pain range from poor posture, to lifestyle and work conditions, to auto, workplace, or sports-related injuries.  While many people turn to quick fixes like aspirin or ibuprofen to treat neck pain, this won’t address the cause of pain, and it will return.  Regardless of the cause of your neck pain, the specialists at Centro Chiropractic Clinic have the expertise to help you address both pain symptoms and underlying causes.

Our treatment process begins with a consultation and examination to explore your medical history, assess your current health condition, and address any questions or concerns you may have.  This allows us to create a unique and personalized plan for chiropractic care and support services like massage therapy, corrective exercises, lifestyle advice, and even nutritional counseling that can help to improve your neck and back pain, as well as overall health.  Spinal and postural screenings and x-rays may be necessary to conduct a full assessment and provide the best possible plan for care.

You don’t have to suffer with neck pain that affects your sleep and limits your ability to live life to the fullest.

WHIPLASH INJURY

Whiplash is a relatively common injury that occurs to a person's neck following a sudden acceleration-deceleration force that causes unrestrained, rapid forward and backward movement of the head and neck that can occur during a sporting event, slips and falls or automobile crashes. In fact whiplash is the most common reported neck injury after a car accident.

Fortunately, whiplash is not a life threatening injury, but it can lead to prolonged periods of partial disability.  The deceptive thing about this injury is that even at low speeds, the symptoms often do not manifest themselves until hours or even days after the crash.  This is why we urge anyone who has recently been in a car crash, or any other accident, even if at low speeds, to come in for a consultation and examination as soon as possible.

Whiplash Facts

Does it matter if I braced for the car accident or if it totally caught me by surprise?
Yes, a lack of awareness in rear end crashes increases the probability of chronic whiplash pain 15 times!

Is chiropractic care an effective treatment for my auto accident injuries?
A study by Woodward reported that chiropractic care was effective in 93% of people with chronic whiplash. Managing people with chronic whiplash is more challenging than managing people with a recent whiplash injury.

A meta-analysis of many studies looked at the effectiveness of chiropractic care for the treatment of neck pain. The studies showed that chiropractic treatments were effective in reducing pain, improving neck motion, and improving activities of daily living. A recent study by Giles and Muller compared the efficacy of treating spinal pain via three different treatment methods: medical treatment (medication), acupuncture treatment, and chiropractic treatment (spinal manipulation). They found that chiropractic treatment was over five times more effective than medical treatment and was almost two times more effective than acupuncture!

HEADACHES & MIGRAINES

If you suffer from headaches or migraines, you are not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches or migraines. Whether you suffer from occasional headaches with dull pain or from more frequent throbbing migraines that cause debilitating pain and nausea, we can help.

Often times, a headache or even recurring migraines are rooted in the neck. Cervicogenic headaches, or secondary headaches, can mimic the symptoms of migraines. However, while migraines are rooted in the brain, cervicogenic headaches are rooted in the neck.

In addition to a throbbing head pain typical of migraines, symptoms of a cervicogenic headache can include:

  • pain on one side of your head or face
  • a stiff neck
  • pain around the eyes
  • pain while coughing or sneezing
  • a headache with certain neck postures or movement

Similarly, symptoms typically associated with migraines, such as light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, blurry vision, and an upset stomach can occur. You may have tried different remedies for your headaches or migraines such as taking pain pills, lying down in the dark, or simply gritting your teeth and trying to carry on. However, chiropractic care at Centro Chiropractic Clinic is a better alternative to treat your headaches and migraines.
